One man is dead and another was injured after multiple shots were fired outside of the Sikh Temple on Sunday, sheriff's officials said.

The shooting happened at about 1:30 p.m. during a sports tournament at the Sikh Society located at the 7600 block of Bradshaw Road.

Two men were watching an outdoor basketball game several yards away from the Temple when they were both shot at, officials said.

"People were hiding behind cars, trying to get out of the field. There was a girl in a wheelchair stranded out there and we were all scared," a witness told KCRA 3.

One of the victims, a man in his 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene. A 38-year-old man was taken to UC Davis Medical Center where he is currently in serious condition, officials said.

After the shooting, a 23-year-old man was chased and captured by witnesses, officials said.

"The crowd heard the gunshots and saw the men with the guns," said Sgt. Tim Curran, of the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department. "They (crowd) tackled one of the suspects and detained him."

The crowd then turned the man over to police, who suffered injuries when the crowd hit him with field hockey and cricket sticks, Curran said.

The second man wanted in connection with the shooting fled the scene in an unknown vehicle, officials said.

Investigators discovered two handguns on the property where the shooting took place.

Authorities said they do not think the shooting was a random act or a hate crime, and the shooting was a result of an on-going dispute.

Anyone with information about this shooting can call the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department at 916-874-5115, or Crime Alert at 916-443-HELP.
