KCRA 3 Turkey Thursday Nets 2,766 Birds

KCRA 3 put out the call, and generous viewers flocked in.

A total of 2,766 turkeys were collected Thursday for families in need this Thanksgiving.

Working with Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services, the poultry push was originally dubbed the KCRA 3 Turkey Thursday 500. But that goal was met by 9 a.m.

By 11 a.m., more than 1,000 turkeys were collected; the 1,500-turkey mark was passed by 1 p.m., and by 3 p.m., 2,000 turkeys had been donated.

Donations had surpassed 2,500 turkeys by 5:15 p.m., shifting the goal to 3,000 birds.

Other Thanksgiving meal items, such as stuffing and canned goods, were also accepted.

You can still bring your donation to Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services at:

3333 Third Ave.
Sacramento, Calif. 95817
(map)

It's one block south of Broadway, at 34th Street and Third Avenue.

Go to the rear of the building, enter the alley from 33rd Street and drive into the parking lot (inside the iron fence).
